One of the most important benefits for opting for a concrete pool is longivity and durability.
The internal cement render plaster surface is installed on top of the concrete shell surface to waterproof the pool shell.
Applying the internal plaster is the last task in the process and water is started into the pool usually the same day.
There have been many advances in these products and it is not uncommon for a concrete pool surface to last over 30 years.
There are several colours and surface finishes available.
Standard plaster is a classic white quartz render finished with a metal trowel to provide a smooth easy care surface.
Classic white quartz will provide a crystal clear light blue water appearance.
Manufacturers can also add coloured quartz chips, glass beads, or coloured pigments to offer a wide range of appearances.
We recommend a surface known as Dura quartz which has several colours available.
There are several brands available with a wide range of characteristics.
Another alternative is a pebble coated finish.
In some cases coloured stones from New Zealand are selected and graded to supply a very natural surface ranging from white to green to black.
Small coloured stones are mixed into the cement plaster render and then acid washed to expose the colour.
Tiling is not always required with a pebble finish however the overall cost is usually higher than a white quartz plaster finish.
Old concrete pools can be given a new lease of life and renovated by installing a new internal finish from any of the above options.
