Front Yard Masterpiece

Gil Howard from Oasis Concrete pools was presented with a request for a concrete swimming pool in a narrow front yard in Mount Lawley.

The sloping street and limited space required some unique design and engineering.

The pool was designed to be right on the street boundary.

Scott and associates Engineers designed the out of ground pool walls to also become the outer side of the front fence that faced the street.

  • The pool wall became the foundation for a wrought iron pool fence with rendered brick piers.
  • The 9m x 4m pool also has a raised edge to support the change in levels and includes blue tiles and stacked stone feature with a 1200mm Waterblade with LED lighting.
  • The upper level serves as the entertainment area.
  • Preliminary works included relocating sewer, gas lines, water and telephone supplies.
  • To add to the design issues, the City of Stirling has the house listed within a Heritage zone. The owner had to meet additional design rules and works were needed to create a pool fence that met the heritage criteria.
  • Fully frameless glass fencing was installed on the house side of the pool.
  • The pool interior is Dura quartz Ice Blue with Australis pavestones and blue waterline tiles from Osborne Ceramics.

The finished pool is a good example of how a concrete pool can be engineered to solve site problems at almost every home.
